2020 Use of Force
The Michigan State Police reported four Use of Force incidents in 2020 that met the qualifying definition for reporting to the FBI's National Use of Force Data Collection. Qualifying uses of force include any action that resulted in the death or serious bodily injury of a person, or the discharge of a firearm at or in the direction of a person.

|11/15/20||1 W/M||1 W/M||Robbery||Injury||Mount Pleasant Post||A subject robbed three fuel stations and was confronted by officers upon leaving the third location. Trooper deployed lethal force causing injury to the subject by discharging his department-issued firearm. (non-fatal)|
|12/6/20||11 W/M||1 W/M||Warrant Service||Discharged Weapon||Emergency Support Team||The Emergency Support Team responded to the residence of a subject under investigation for suspected terrorism. Team members established a perimeter and attempted to talk the subject out of the residence, when the subject fired upon the troopers. Troopers returned fire; however, the subject took his own life with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. (fatal)|
