Recycling for Residents

Every Michigan resident has a part to play in making recycling work. EGLE offers tools, education, and guidance to help residents recycle more - and recycle right - at home and in their communities.

Understanding what can and cannot be recycled is the first step to recycling right. Because recycling programs vary by community, it’s important to follow your local guidelines for accepted materials and proper preparation.

Recycling rules by material type

The Recycling Raccoon Squad is a highly motivated band of masked recycling experts. After years of knocking over your garbage cans, they know what you should be throwing out and what you should be recycling.

  • A raccoon wearing blue glasses

    Glass

Learn the rules for glass — they're right here and quite clear.

  • Recycling Raccoon Paper MacKay

    Paper

The rules for paper are worth writing down (on paper you'll want to keep).

  • Recycling Raccoon Nyla P Lastic

    Plastic

You could rule the world of recycling plastic with these rules.

  • Recycling Raccoon Carlos Cardboard

    Cardboard

The rules to recycling cardboard are not really out-of-the-box thinking.

  • Recycling Raccoon Precious Metale

    Metal

The rules for recycling metal are pretty much the only rules I follow.

  • Recycling Raccoon Frank

    Other

The rules for the other category are right here and not like the others.
