Materials Management Planning Grants

Grants are available to counties for the development, implementation, and maintenance of the new Materials Management Plans (MMP) that are required per Part 115, Solid Waste Management, of the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act, 1994 PA 451, as amended. The amount of the awarded grant funds varies based on how the county is completing this effort, either as a single county or collaborating with other counties; and the total residents of the county based on the 2020 U.S. Census results.

Other funding opportunities related to materials management and previous planning related grants are also available below.

Materials Management Planning Grants

  • Fifty-six counties participated in the MMCE grant program and have completed a final report that showcases items that can be used in the development of their planning area’s materials management plan (MMP). The following are some highlighted deliverables found in these reports: potential collaboration opportunities for materials management infrastructure and systems; deficiencies and opportunities as well as potential investments, resources, policy activities to help with MMP goal setting; review of existing mechanisms; and if there were any other sustainable practices that may be useful to pursue during the materials management planning process.
