Mike Neller
Remediation and Redevelopment Division Director
Mike Neller is director of the Remediation and Redevelopment Division (RRD) in the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE). The division addresses Michigan's contaminated properties, ensuring they are managed and remediated to protect public health and the environment.
The division works through compliance assistance, collaboration, enforcement, and partnerships to help communities reduce risks and, in many cases, return formerly contaminated lands to productive use.
Mike joined EGLE in 2018 as manager of the Radiological Section and has led RRD since 2019. Before joining EGLE, Mike had a distinguished career in the U.S. Navy, where he was the commanding officer of the nuclear ballistic missile submarine USS Florida (SSBN 728) and served in other operational roles, including deputy chief of staff for readiness and training at Submarine Group Nine and chief of staff for plans and intelligence gathering operations in the Mediterranean post 9-11.
His eclectic background also includes three years as the Professor of Naval Science at the University of Notre Dame, six years in manufacturing, and five years in education, most recently as dean of students at Culver Academies in Indiana.
