Michigan Green Schools applications open for 2024

The Michigan Green Schools Program supports and celebrates the achievements of PreK-12 schools in protecting the state's air, land, water, and ecosystems through their commitments to environmental education and stewardship actions. Applications are open from January 1 to March 3 to be recognized as a Michigan Green School in 2024.
The Green Team at Pentwater Public School celebrates their certification as an Evergreen School.
Established in 2006, Michigan Green Schools certifies schools annually for various levels of stewardship by earning points for activities in the four categories of Reduce/Reuse/Recycle, Energy, Environmental Protection, and Miscellaneous Environmental Activities. Recognition levels include:
- Green School | 10 total activities with at least two activities from each of the four categories
- Emerald School| 15 total activities with at least two activities from each of the four categories
- Evergreen School| 20 total activities with at least two activities from each of the four categories
In 2023, EGLE recognized over 300 public and private schools for their commitments to environmental education and stewardship action. The 2023-2024 school year application form and current information can be found on the Michigan Green Schools Hub.
