The Michigan Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) provides all persons (except persons incarcerated in correctional facilities) with access to public records of public bodies. Requests to inspect or receive public records from EGLE must be in writing and describe the requested records with enough detail to enable the department to identify and locate the requested records. Some records are exempt from disclosure under the FOIA or another statute and thus will not be provided. A fee may be charged to process your request. Please note that many records are available that do not require a formal FOIA request.

As part of a community-based project, the Michigan Department of Environment Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) partnered with the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to improve air quality on the east side of Detroit. The goals of this project are to engage with the community on air issues and, together, achieve measurable environmental results.
As part of this project, EPA and EGLE collaborated to prepare an air quality monitoring report for the Greater Detroit area. The report identifies the locations of air monitoring sites in the Detroit area, summarizes air quality monitoring trends, and provides information about the measured pollutants. The data show that, while there is still work to be done, concentrations of air pollutants in the Detroit area have decreased over the last 20 years.
