The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) approved more than $25 million in brownfield redevelopment funding across the state in the 2024 fiscal year. The money went to 87 projects in 55 communities, drawing capital investment estimated at more than $1 billion.

EGLE brownfield incentives help facilitate the redevelopment of contaminated properties, helping to create new jobs and clean the environment. More than half of EGLE’s annual budget supports local projects, protects public health and the environment, and helps create economic growth and jobs for Michigan workers. Redevelopment increases the value of brownfield sites and other nearby properties.
