The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy’s (EGLE) Water Well Viewer (WWV), is an interactive mapping system that displays water wells along with other information, such as wellhead protection areas, underground storage tanks, and sites of environmental contamination. Water well locations have been identified by address matching, the use of global positioning systems (GPS), and by legal descriptions.
This system allows water well drilling and pump installation contractors to submit water well records.
EGLE's interactive calendar is designed to provide timely information on decisions before the Director, proposed settlements of contested cases, administrative rules promulgation, public hearings, meetings and comment deadlines, and environmental conferences, workshops and training programs.

Over 17,000 GIS professionals and enthusiasts from around the world attended the ESRI 2026 User Conference site in San Diego. The modernized application and review process for Michigan’s State Revolving Fund (SRF) was the focus of a presentation given by Luke Hurley of the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) at a recent Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI) 2026 User Conference in San Diego.
Michigan’s State Revolving Fund (SRF) offers below market rate loans for water infrastructure improvement projects that protect public health and the environment. The SRF is committed to continuously improving the way it serves Michigan communities.
Hurley, of the Water Infrastructure Funding and Financing Section of the department’s Finance Division, highlighted ongoing efforts to enhance customer service and streamline key processes using modern Geographic Information System (GIS) tools.
The presentation, ArcGIS Survey123 & Water Equity: Modern Tools for Inclusive Infrastructure Investment, demonstrated how Michigan's SRF team modernized its affordability application and review process using ArcGIS Survey123. The solution replaces the old affordability application with a clear, digital form that’s easier for communities to complete and faster for EGLE staff to review. The custom workflow helps applicants navigate Michigan’s SRF program more smoothly, bridging technology, equity, and environment with innovative GIS.
Hurley’s presentation explored the custom smart surveys he built that enabled the user experience improvements that benefited both SRF applicants and EGLE staff.
