EGLE announces 2025 Earth Day poster contest, student sustainability summit and environmental service awards
February 20, 2025
The environmental education staff at the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) has announced the 2025 Earth Day Poster Contest, Student Sustainability Summit, and Environmental Service Awards.
EGLE Earth Day Poster contest
EGLE invites students in kindergarten through 5th grade to enter the annual Michigan Earth Day Poster Contest! Prizes are awarded for first and second place winners in each grade. Posters must be Michigan-specific and should include wildlife, plants, land, or freshwater ecosystems native to Michigan. Posters can be hand-drawn or created on a computer. Posters will be scored based on the students' creative use of Michigan native wildlife, plants, land, freshwater ecosystems, or environmental topics specific to your Michigan community. The contest now features online submission to make it easier to submit contest entries. Questions? Contact Pam Howd (EGLE) at 517-282-8357 or EGLE-EarthDay@Michigan.gov.
EGLE Earth Day Environmental Service Awards
EGLE invites schools to nominate a student or classroom in grades 6-12 to be recognized for completing a school-sanctioned project that has tangible results for the environment. Two projects will receive an award, one for grades 6-8, and one for grades 9-12. Eligible projects demonstrate tangible results and benefits to Michigan’s environment, such as protecting the Great Lakes, restoring ecosystems, improving air or water quality, or conserving energy and resources. Projects can be completed by school or extracurricular groups, such as scouts or 4H clubs, between February 1, 2024, and March 1, 2025. Award nominations must be submitted online by March 15, 11:59 p.m. If you have any questions, please email Samantha Lichtenwald at LichtenwaldS@Michigan.gov.
