The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy’s (EGLE) Water Well Viewer (WWV), is an interactive mapping system that displays water wells along with other information, such as wellhead protection areas, underground storage tanks, and sites of environmental contamination. Water well locations have been identified by address matching, the use of global positioning systems (GPS), and by legal descriptions.
This system allows water well drilling and pump installation contractors to submit water well records.
EGLE's interactive calendar is designed to provide timely information on decisions before the Director, proposed settlements of contested cases, administrative rules promulgation, public hearings, meetings and comment deadlines, and environmental conferences, workshops and training programs.

In Fiscal Year 2025, EGLE received over 17,800 requests under the Freedom of Information Act. EGLE received 17,807 requests under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) in Fiscal Year 2025 (FY25). The Michigan Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) provides all persons (except persons incarcerated in correctional facilities) with access to public records of public bodies.

Many public documents are available online, including the MiEnviro portal, which is the software product for electronic notification, permitting, emissions reporting and compliance. FY25 marked the first full year that EGLE’s Air Quality Division shared info via MiEnviro.
Public records may also be accessed via the Remediation Information Data Exchange (RIDE), which allows the public to access records that have been scanned and filed in the Electronic Document Management (EDM) system by EGLE’s Remediation and Redevelopment Division. Paper files are still being scanned into the EDM system, and therefore not all files are available through RIDE. However, the number of files available through RIDE continues to grow. Air quality rules and regulations are complicated. The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy’s (EGLE) Air Quality Division regulates industrial sources of air pollution. To gain proficiency in applying the state and federal regulations during EGLE’s work, proper staff training is key. On top of on-the-job training with their peers, and attending other job related training, all new AQD staff are sent to Rules School.
