The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy’s (EGLE) Water Well Viewer (WWV), is an interactive mapping system that displays water wells along with other information, such as wellhead protection areas, underground storage tanks, and sites of environmental contamination. Water well locations have been identified by address matching, the use of global positioning systems (GPS), and by legal descriptions.
This system allows water well drilling and pump installation contractors to submit water well records.
EGLE's interactive calendar is designed to provide timely information on decisions before the Director, proposed settlements of contested cases, administrative rules promulgation, public hearings, meetings and comment deadlines, and environmental conferences, workshops and training programs.

EGLE staffers Tracy Tomaszewski, Madi Opperthauser, and Regina Strong join officials with the City of Madison Heights and Cascade Engineering and the Recycling Raccoons mascot. In the past year, Michiganders have been making strides when it comes to keeping the state nice and green. That includes a recycling rate of 25%, which translates to 723,174 tons more of recyclable materials than the previous year — keeping the state on track to reach the goal of a 30% recycling rate by 2029!
The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) also announced more than $4.6 million in new infrastructure grants to boost recycling throughout the state. This will continue to make recycling more accessible.
“Michigan’s commitment to recycling is shaping a cleaner, more resilient future,” said EGLE Director Phil Roos. “By increasing our recycling rate, we not only conserve natural resources but also generate substantial economic benefits.”

In FY 2025 Michigan’s State Revolving Fund (SRF) awarded low interest loan dollars to 55 projects totaling over $880 million in assistance directly to communities.

Air quality rules and regulations are complicated. The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy’s (EGLE) Air Quality Division regulates industrial sources of air pollution. To gain proficiency in applying the state and federal regulations during EGLE’s work, proper staff training is key. On top of on-the-job training with their peers, and attending other job related training, all new AQD staff are sent to Rules School.
