Elective Pay helps Ida Public Schools replace failing boiler system with geothermal HVAC system

Ida Public Schools had a problem. Its boiler systems were failing and so outdated that new parts were not available.

The solution for the Monroe County school district was to use Elective Pay to fund the new, highly-efficient geothermal HVAC system, along with other funding sources. The school district is among the first in Michigan to use this creative way to fund its needed climate control system.

Elective Pay, also known as Direct Pay, allows eligible tax-exempt entities, such as schools, local governments, houses of worship, and nonprofit organizations to receive certain clean-energy tax credits as direct cash reimbursements, making clean energy projects more affordable and accessible.

Watch the EGLE video for more on how the school district met the challenges it faced and check out the case study that provides more details on how Elective Pay played a vital role in replacing the school district’s HVAC system.

The State of Michigan has free support opportunities for schools interested in capturing Elective Pay rebates for HVAC projects, including a webinar.
