The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy’s (EGLE) Water Well Viewer (WWV), is an interactive mapping system that displays water wells along with other information, such as wellhead protection areas, underground storage tanks, and sites of environmental contamination. Water well locations have been identified by address matching, the use of global positioning systems (GPS), and by legal descriptions.
This system allows water well drilling and pump installation contractors to submit water well records.
EGLE's interactive calendar is designed to provide timely information on decisions before the Director, proposed settlements of contested cases, administrative rules promulgation, public hearings, meetings and comment deadlines, and environmental conferences, workshops and training programs.

This public comment period is regarding a water withdrawal permit application by High Grade Materials Company to withdraw up to 0.9 million gallons of water per day for sand and gravel aggregate operations near the intersection of Colby Lake Road and W. Grand River Road in Sciota Township, Shiawassee County.
Water would be pumped into a freshwater pond and then pumped the processing plant to process the sand and gravel. Used wash water would then be recirculated through a slurry pond for sediment settling, and then back into the freshwater pond for reuse.

Our Water Use Program manages large water withdrawals in Michigan to help protect our rivers, streams, lakes, and groundwater. If a business, farm, municipality, or other facility plans to pump large amounts of water, it may be considered a Large Quantity Withdrawal.
A Large Quantity Withdrawal is defined as having the capacity to withdraw more than 100,000 gallons per day (GPD) over a 30-day period (70 gallons per minute (GPM)), and includes the combined total for all pumps on the property.
Owners of Large Quantity Withdrawals are required by state law to register the withdrawal or obtain a permit before operating. The Water Use Program reviews proposed withdrawals to make sure they do not significantly alter the local water balance resulting in harm to nearby water resources or aquatic life.
