This webinar will provide examples of successful food waste initiatives in Michigan including food waste reduction in Materials Management Planning as well as outside of the planning process.

Food waste reduction funding mechanisms and open grant opportunities will be discussed, including the EGLE Food Rescue and Organics Infrastructure Request for Proposals, both currently accepting applications. This webinar aims to support communities and counties in strengthening food waste reduction and supporting Michigan’s goal to reduce food waste by 50% by 2030.

What will be discussed

  • Opportunities for reducing food waste.
  • How food waste reduction is being incorporated into Materials Management Planning and approaches to food waste reduction beyond MMPs.
  • Examples of food waste reduction initiatives in both rural and urban areas will be highlighted.
  • Brief overview of funding mechanisms and EGLE grant opportunities to reduce food waste, including more information on the EGLE Food Rescue RFP and the EGLE Organics Infrastructure RFP, both currently accepting applications through August 14th.

County and municipal officials, regional planning agencies, Designated Planning Agents, solid waste and recycling professionals, sustainability professionals, environmental or food waste nonprofits, and anyone interested in advancing food waste solutions
