Did you know? Food grown at school CAN be served in the cafeteria! What starts as an engaging educational tool for students can turn into fresh, local food access and cost reductions.
Some Michigan schools with limited space and labor capacity partner with local farms for off-site school gardens. Or, think small - a single tomato plant as a sort of classroom pet.

Seed bank project
Anyone can start a seed bank project in their school community. There are four main steps to this project.
- Collecting seeds
- Storing seeds
- Sharing seeds
- Planting seeds.
Then, the cycle repeats. Growing plants can support the environment by capturing carbon from the air, filtering pollutants, and creating habitat for insects and wildlife. Seed banking makes growing plants easier and more affordable.
