Centro Multicultural La Familia
Centro Multicultural La Familia
Centro Multicultural La Familia (CMLF) is a Pontiac-based non-profit that provides culturally responsive services to families in a holistic approach in order to improve their quality of life. CMLF is a mission-driven organization that provides services to a diverse community and is supported by fully bilingual and multicultural staff. While the majority of their clients are immigrants and those of Latin American descent, CMLF strives to offer services to a broader cultural community. They are proud to offer services in the areas of mental health, advocacy for survivors of domestic and sexual violence, victims of crime advocacy, education, health prevention, wellness, entrepreneurship, radio broadcasting and many other services that fill the needs of community members. The goal of their project is to bring together a space for nature-based healing and create a connection to the diverse community and immigrant clients the organization currently serves.
Through community partnerships, CMLF will establish a mutual aid community fridge and facilitate multiple bilingual workshops in the areas of urban farming and gardening, arts and culture, holistic or ancestral healing, traditional foodways and nutrition, and dance. CMLF honors their community by providing language-access to Spanish speakers and honors multiple cultural traditions while connecting with land, social and recreational activities and creating a healing village ~together~. This programming will serve those from Oakland, Wayne and Macomb counties and center BIPOC (Black Indigenous People of Color) and folks living on the margins. As an organization that has served Pontiac for over 30 years, CMLF hopes this opportunity will allow them to water their programs in order for them to grow past filling service gaps, and more so creating belonging, vibrant, creative and re-connecting community programs.
