Grand Rapids Nehemiah Project
Grand Rapids Nehemiah Project (GRNP) seeks to offer a work where people join in mutual relationships, establish an inclusive view of community, and engage with accountability to each other. There is a passion to gather and train church and business leaders about the intersection of faith, work and economic to see all people flourish.
GRNP, alongside it’s co-located and founding partners within the Grand Rapids Center for Community Transformation (GRCCT), Bethany Christian Services (BCS), Building Bridges Professional Services, Rising Grinds Cafe, the 1530, and NAACP GR, will be providing various transformative opportunities through 6 programs: 1) After School Programs, 2) Workforce Development, 3) Low-Income Senior Support, 4) Legal Redress Services, 5) Community Event Spaces, 6) Minority/Women Business Services.
BCS will deliver after-school workshops at the shared GRCCT location at 1530 Madison Ave, using the Love Notes curriculum, an evidenced-based holistic development program designed to prevent risky behaviors and poor decision-making by helping young adults (youth ages 14-24) develop a positive self-image, learn conflict resolution and effective life management skills, and employment preparation. The core service referred to as ProTrek in which youth will be offered is the 13-module evidence-based, trauma-informed Love Notes curriculum. Each session is one hour long. Facilitators & Case Managers will assess youth scheduling preferences during the assessment and place youth in a Love Notes cohort that is most comfortable and convenient for the participant.
The project will provide training for Grand Rapids residents planning to obtain employment in high growth industries. Training will include recognized credentials and certifications, including the following:
- A 7-month GED program which includes tutoring by a certified instructor and testing. Activities are offered daily, on-site, and additional resources are referred out as needed.
- Pre-Apprenticeship Certification Training (PACT) for construction industries such as HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and carpentry.
- National Retail Federation nationally recognized customer service training.
- OSHA-10 /CPR workplace safety and lifesaving techniques training.
- Vocational training career fairs and referrals to external programs.
