Waldron District Library
Waldron District Library
The current Waldron District library has been serving the community since 1994 and is a wonderful place to explore education, technology, imagination and a love for books and crafts. With the library’s downtown location, they have the advantage of accessibility for their community of patrons. They offer a unique selection of books as well as programs for adults and children. They also provide services to Wright, Amboy and Ransom communities.
The libraries children’s activities include story time and crafts every week, and during these events they serve 20 patrons. The library also has home-schooled children who come to the library for educational and recreational purposes. They offer public computers for people to access online training, resume building, research and email as well as printing, official documents. The library serves 50 patrons with computer use. The library is also the only place in town where people can make copies and faxes. Should the copier and fax machine ever bite the dust, the patrons and community members would have to drive at least 25 miles to make their copies and faxes. It is also important to acknowledge that the library has a Heritage room, which provides the history of the village of Waldron to its residents. This is a place for anyone who is interested to sit down and pour over old documents, books and antiques.
The library offers a small programming area used for art classes and activities such as story hour and adult book club meetings, in addition to providing a meeting space for other requests from people in the area. The library serves 50 patrons with these programs and services. There are also programs for seniors, for which they serve 30. The library provides a small gathering area in the main library, and offers a small conference room for private meetings for all organizations which serves 25 patrons. This grant will help them provide a more energy efficient, comfortable and inviting library experience with the updates to the parking lot, windows and flooring, as well as enhancing the patron’s learning experience with updated computers to name a few.
This isn’t just a building filled with books. It’s a home for likeminded people to gather together and share their love of books, education and art. Through this togetherness we have built relationships that transcend the dynamic between librarian and patron. The patrons and the librarians are friends and family who care deeply for one another. Because of this caring, the library wants to provide a renovated home for our patrons where they can gather together to make new memories with us. As our tiny library has overcome many obstacles, unfortunately the majority of our businesses have not been so fortunate. As of now, there are only three businesses still open. Due to this, the library is not only a place to obtain books and educate oneself; we are a social gathering place for our village. While offering many activities for both children and adults, we encourage every patron to “come stay awhile”. Our goal is to promote the education, the love of books and to provide a safe and welcome place for our community.
