MiUI for Employers
-
What is MiUI?MiUI is a new computer system that will replace the Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency’s (UIA) current system, Michigan Web Account Manager (MiWAM), installed in 2013. It will be used by claimants, employers and UIA staff in administering the state’s unemployment insurance program. MiUI is grounded in practical needs, shaped by user experience, and aligned with UIA’s statutory responsibility to serve Michigan workers and employers more effectively.
-
Why is UIA transitioning to MiUI?It is important to UIA that a new system is a better experience for the public, provides more efficient operations for our staff, and reflects the values of government service. MiUI prioritizes ease of access for claimants and employers while providing UIA with significant programming flexibility for system updates in response to shifts in the economy, changes in legislation, and unexpected surges in demand.
-
How will MiUI be different from UIA's current system?MiUI will feature human-centered design and plain language for an easy-to-understand user experience for employers, claimants, and agency staff.
-
What are the benefits of MiUI?MiUI will connect seamlessly to other information databases to accurately identify fraudulent claims. It will also allow for accelerated claims processing, is developed to be mobile friendly, will include redesigned plain-language forms, and provide streamlined manual processes. It will also feature updated employer quarterly wage filing capabilities, increased data accuracy, programming flexibility, a user-friendly design, and automated reports and dashboards which will benefit those filing for jobless benefits, employer submitting wage and tax reports, and agency staff.
-
When will the new system be released? The new system is going to be implemented in two phases. This phased approach is industry best practice. Phases allow for more manageable rollouts, focused testing, and reduces the risk of disruption for employers and claimants. For MiUI, the tax-related system functionality used by employers and third-party administrators (TPAs) will launch on December 15, 2025. The benefits-related functionality will launch by summer of 2026. Before the Tax phase goes live, there will be a short period where UIA is transitioning between systems, so MiWAM will not be available for a few days. Those dates will be announced as the time approaches.
-
How will the two phases affect employers and TPAs?For a few months after the Tax Phase of MiUI goes live, employers and TPAs will be performing unemployment insurance duties in two systems. Tax functions will be completed in MiUI, while benefits functions will still be completed in MiWAM. It is essential all employers and TPAs have a MiWAM account. Both systems will be used to deliver alerts and updates throughout this interim period, providing clear communication about roles and responsibilities.
-
How will I get to MiUI?MiUI will be accessed through a MiLogin for Business account, similar toother State of Michigan services and systems. MiLogin is the State of Michigan's identity management solution that allows users to access many state services and systems online, across multiple departments, using a single user ID and password. This single sign-on for logging in as an employer under one ID and password simplifies the process for users. Understanding MiLogin is crucial as it will be the gateway to the new MiUI system, streamlining access and enhancing security.
