State Board of Education to Convene February Meeting in Wayne County

LANSING – Michigan’s State Board of Education will take its monthly meeting on the road when it convenes at 9:30 a.m., February 13, at Wayne RESA in Wayne, MI.
“We want to get out across the state to listen and learn about the education successes and issues people are experiencing,” State Board co-Presidents Richard Zeile and Casandra Ulbrich said in a joint statement.
“Many times, people – especially educators – find it difficult to come to Lansing during the week to share their thoughts or just listen to the discussions during the monthly State Board meetings,” they said.
While individual State Board of Education members visit schools and meet with organizations throughout Michigan, the members want the State Board as a whole to be equally accessible to the public. Last October, the State Board of Education held its monthly meeting in Kent County.
Among the agenda items at the February meeting will be a presentation on the recently-released report by the School Finance Research Collaborative; and a presentation by Wayne RESA Superintendent Randy Liepa on how districts in Wayne County are implementing programs to help Michigan become a Top 10 education state in 10 years.
The meeting will take place in the auditorium at Wayne RESA, 33500 VanBorn Road in Wayne. The meeting is open to the public, with a public comment period beginning around 1 p.m.
