Certificate Application Fee Reimbursement
The Michigan Department of Education is now reimbursing eligible educators for certificate application fees for educators renewing their certificates that are set to expire for the first time; this opportunity also applies to educators adding additional teaching endorsements. There is no need to apply for this opportunity. We will process reimbursements in the order in which certificates are issued after successful application in the Michigan Online Educator Certification System (MOECS). Reimbursements are available for renewals that occur after October 1, 2023 on a first-come, first-service basis until funds run out or September 13, 2024, whichever occurs earlier.
The following educators renewing their certificate for the first time qualify for this reimbursement:
- First-time renewal of a Standard Certificate
- Educators moving from an Interim Certificate to a Standard Certificate
- Educators who have never renewed their Standard and are progressing to a Professional Certificate
- Educators who were first certified out of state and whose first Michigan certification was a Professional, and this is their first time renewing
Educators are also eligible if they have added an additional endorsement:
- Held an Interim and added the endorsement to their existing teaching certificate
- Added to their Standard Teaching Certificate
- Added to their Professional Teaching Certificate
- Added to their Advanced Professional Teaching Certificate
Frequently Asked Questions
I think I qualify for this program. Why haven't I received a reimbursement?
Educators renewing their certificate for the first time or educators adding an additional endorsement to a teaching certificate qualify for this opportunity. This program operates on a first-come, first-served basis until funds run out or September 13, 2024, whichever occurs earlier. Processing reimbursements can take up to 6 weeks after a certificate/endorsement has been applied for, paid, and issued.
I qualify, but my application says, "Pay Fee". Why?
Eligible educators are not exempt from paying the application fee. We will refund the application fee after the certificate/endorsement has been applied for, paid, and issued.
What do you mean by "first-come, first-served?
Reimbursement funds are limited. Reimbursements will be processed in the order that certificates/endorsements are issued.
Will this reimbursement program be available next year (Oct. 1, 2024)?
This program relies on an annual allocation from the legislature. We cannot guarantee that the program will continue beyond the fiscal year.
I am renewing for the second time. Will this program be expanded to help me?
At this time, the reimbursement program will not be extended to additional populations of educators.
