Certificate Application Fee Reimbursement
Program Description: Reimbursement of certificate application fees for eligible educators.
Eligible Educators:
- Educators renewing their expiring Michigan certificates for the first time.
- Educators adding additional teaching endorsements to their existing Michigan teaching certificates.
There is no need to apply for this opportunity. We will process reimbursements to eligible educators in the order in which certificates/endorsements are issued after successful application in the Michigan Online Educator Certification System (MOECS). Reimbursements are available for applications that occur after October 1 on a first-come, first-served basis until September 15th or until funds are depleted, whichever comes first. Note: 2023-24 funds were depleted by June 2024.
Educators Renewing: The following educators renewing their certificate for the first time qualify for this reimbursement:
- First-time renewal of a Standard Teaching Certificate
- Educators moving from an Interim Teaching Certificate to a Standard Teaching Certificate
- Educators who have never renewed their Standard Teaching Certificate and are progressing to a Professional Teaching Certificate
- Educators who were first certified in another state, country, or federally recognized Indian tribe and whose first Michigan certification was a Professional Teaching Certificate, and this is their first-time renewing
Educators Adding Endorsement: The following educators are eligible if they have added an additional endorsement:
- Held an Interim Teaching Certificate and added an endorsement to their existing teaching certificate
- Added an endorsement to their Standard Teaching Certificate
- Added an endorsement to their Professional Teaching Certificate
- Added an endorsement to their Advanced Professional Teaching Certificate

I think I qualify for this program. Why haven't I received a reimbursement?
Educators renewing their certificate for the first time or educators adding an additional endorsement to a teaching certificate qualify for this opportunity. This program operates on a first-come, first-served basis until funds run out or September 15, 2025, whichever occurs earlier. Processing reimbursements can take up to 6 weeks after a certificate/endorsement has been applied for, paid, and issued.

I qualify, but my application says, "Pay Fee". Why?
Eligible educators are not exempt from paying the application fee. We will refund the application fee after the certificate/endorsement has been applied for, paid, and issued.

What do you mean by "first-come, first-served?
Reimbursement funds are limited. Reimbursements will be processed in the order that certificates/endorsements are issued.

Will this reimbursement program be available next year (Oct. 1, 2025)?
This program relies on an annual allocation from the legislature. We cannot guarantee that the program will continue beyond the fiscal year.

I am renewing for the second time. Will this program be expanded to help me?
At this time, the reimbursement program will not be extended to additional populations of educators.
