NSLP Equipment Assistance Grant
Overview
The Michigan Department of Education (MDE) competitively awards U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food and Nutrition Service Equipment Assistance Grants to eligible Sponsor’s participating in the National School Lunch Program. These funds allow Sponsors to:
- Serve healthier school meals that meet the meal patterns with emphasis on more fruits and vegetables.
- Improve food safety.
- Support the establishment, maintenance, or expansion of the School Breakfast Program.
Who Can Apply?
Any Sponsor participating in the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) including:
- Public School Districts
- Public School Academies
- Intermediate School Districts
- Nonpublic School Districts
- Residential Childcare Institutions
If you have applied for the 10 Cents a Meal for Michigan’s Kids and Farms grant – consider leveraging an equipment purchase to support cleaning, preparing, storing, or freezing Michigan grown fruits, vegetables, and legumes. Michigan produce can be served outside of the growing season if it is dried or frozen.
NSLP Equipment Assistance Grant 2026
The Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2024, provided $10 million to USDA Food and Nutrition Service for the purpose of equipment assistance grants. MDE received $269,944 for distribution to eligible sponsors participating in the National School Lunch Program (SP20-2024). The application for this grant will be available in spring of 2025.
