BEHAVIORAL THREAT ASSESSMENT TRAINING (Mi-BTAM) COMING SOON

The Michigan State Police Office of School Safety (MSP/OSS) is hosting Michigan K-12 Behavioral Threat Assessment and Management (Mi-BTAM) training across the state for school-based threat assessment teams in K-12 public, charter, and private schools. Mi-BTAM training is a fact-based, systematic process designed to identify, assess, and work collaboratively with families and students to mitigate life situational factors contributing to thoughts of violence and aggression.

BASIC TRAINING

This workshop will focus on the process and procedures needed to establish a consistent school/district-wide approach to threat assessment utilizing a multidisciplinary team. Critical factors discussed will include understanding major facts about school violence and how prevention is possible, the principals of behavioral threat assessment and why schools should use it, and the eight steps to build a threat assessment program. Attendees will practice using the threat assessment procedures through multiple tabletop exercises. Mi-BTAM basic training is based upon research and best practices developed by the United States Secret Service (also known as the National Threat Assessment Center, or NTAC, model of school threat assessment).

Registration is non-transferable.
On-site registration will not be permitted.
Seating will be limited to K-12 school administrators, threat assessment teams, district safety teams, law enforcement, school resource officers, school safety liaisons, social workers, and mental health professionals.
