Drinking Water Laboratory

The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy's (EGLE) Drinking Water Laboratory provides drinking water testing services to the public, state and local communities, and water supply programs.  Drinking water from public water supplies and private residential wells can be tested for a wide variety of microbiological and chemical contaminants. EGLE's Drinking Water Laboratory is the State of Michigan's principal laboratory for compliance testing under Michigan's Safe Drinking Water Act.

Laboratory Updates

Effective on October 1, 2026, the following change will apply to Drinking Water Laboratory operations:

Drinking Water Testing Fees will be increasing.

New fees will reflect an increase over the laboratory's last adjustment of testing fees in 2007.  This adjustment is based on changes in the Detroit Consumer Price Index and will help offset the continuing rise in laboratory operational expenses.

The new Drinking Water Testing Fees Schedule, Testing Fees Frequently Asked Questions, and short Drinking Water Testing Fees Customer Survey are below.
