Baseline Environmental Assessments (BEAs)

A person can buy, lease, or foreclose on contaminated property and be protected from liability for cleanup of existing contamination on the property if they: 1) conduct a baseline environmental assessment (BEA) and 2) disclose it to EGLE and subsequent purchasers and transferees of the property, as outlined in Part 201 (Environmental Remediation) and Part 213 (Leaking Underground Storage Tanks).

To determine if EGLE has information about a specific property and review/receive a copy of that information and or an existing BEA(s) for that property, submit a FOIA request.

EGLE RRD requires that all submittals be provided using the appropriate submittal form, many of which are only available via the Remediation Information Data Exchange (RIDE). Detailed submittal instructions can be found on our RIDE Submittal Types & Guidance Webpage. If you are already a RIDE user, navigate to MiLogin for Business to access RIDE. If you are not a RIDE user and need to submit reports to EGLE RRD, please visit our Become a RIDE User webpage for instructions on how to request a RIDE user account.  For any questions related to RIDE submittals, please email EGLE-RIDE-Admin@michigan.gov.
