The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy’s (EGLE) Water Well Viewer (WWV), is an interactive mapping system that displays water wells along with other information, such as wellhead protection areas, underground storage tanks, and sites of environmental contamination. Water well locations have been identified by address matching, the use of global positioning systems (GPS), and by legal descriptions.
This system allows water well drilling and pump installation contractors to submit water well records.
EGLE's interactive calendar is designed to provide timely information on decisions before the Director, proposed settlements of contested cases, administrative rules promulgation, public hearings, meetings and comment deadlines, and environmental conferences, workshops and training programs.

EGLE Director Phil Roos (l) and Cindy Whittum, EGLE’s recruitment and internship specialist, receive the award for the department’s internship program from Troy Farley of Grand Valley State University (r). The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) recently won the “Outstanding Non-Profit Internship Employer of the Year” award from Grand Valley State University’s Career Center.
The university’s award recognizes excellence in internship programs, along with student development. EGLE won the award because of its successful paid internship program, which transitioned from unpaid to paid in 2025.
“To have EGLE’s internship program recognized like this is an incredible honor,” said Cindy Whittum, EGLE’s recruitment and internship specialist. “Grand Valley State University Career Services staff have been incredibly supportive throughout the development of our program and continues to be an amazing partner as we develop this new talent pipeline.”
