Public meeting for draft Response Activity Plan (ResAP) for Northeast Gravel, Kent County
EGLE is hosting this meeting to discuss a Response Activity Plan (ResAP) submitted for the Northeast Gravel site in Belmont, Michigan.
The purpose of the meeting is to inform area residents and the general public about the contents of the ResAP. EGLE is accepting public comments on the ResAP from November 1, 2026 through December 1, 2026.
Northeast Gravel operated a former landfill at 3769 Cannonsburg Road NE (formerly 4300 Cannonsburg Road NE) comprised of three waste cells:
- A Wolverine World Wide tannery waste cell,
- A plating waste cell, and
- A general refuse waste cell.
The current owner of the property, Boulder Creek Development Company (BCDC), submitted a ResAP to conduct a feasibility study of the former waste cells. The feasibility study is required under the April 24, 2026 Administrative Order by Consent between the State of Michigan and Boulder Creek Development Company, the current owner of the property. The feasibility study will propose potential remedies to control the ongoing release of per and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) from the waste cells on the Property to area groundwater and surface water bodies.
The ResAP describes field investigation activities that will be conducted to determine the extent of the tannery waste cell, evaluate the existing tannery waste cell cap components, and collect seasonal groundwater measurements in the vicinity of the waste cells. These proposed field investigation activities will include the advancement of test trenches along the outside of the tannery waste cell, test pits on top of the tannery waste cell, and piezometers around the waste cells.
