Rane Garcia

Dr. Rané Garcia serves as the Interim Deputy Superintendent for the Division of Educator Excellence, Career and Technical Education, Special Education, and Administrative Law at the Michigan Department of Education (MDE). She also serves as the Equity Inclusion Officer and Language Access Coordinator for MDE. Dr. Garcia has more than 34 years of experience in public education across Michigan, Texas, and Illinois. Her past leadership positions include superintendent, assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction, and K–6 principal of a National Blue Ribbon School. Prior to becoming an administrator, she served as an elementary classroom teacher committed to expanding equity, access, and opportunity for students in diverse and high‑poverty communities. Dr. Garcia holds a doctorate’s degree from Eastern Michigan University, a master’s degree from Grand Valley State University, and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan.  Dr. Garcia continues to champion belonging, access, and equitable systems in her daily work to put Michigan students first.
