Michigan Schools from Marysville Warren Receive National Honors

LANSING – Two Michigan schools from Warren and Marysville were honored during this week’s 2026 National Elementary and Secondary Education Act Conference in Denver, Colo.

The Michigan Department of Education (MDE) Office of Educational Supports and Office of Educational Assessment and Accountability identified the winners as Morton Elementary School of Marysville Public Schools in St. Clair County and Frontier International Academy of the Frontier International Academy District in Warren in Macomb County.

“We are proud of both schools as students, parents, administrators, and teachers continue working to improve achievement and overall performance,” said State Superintendent Dr. Glenn Maleyko.

Morton Elementary was selected in Category 1, which honors “exceptional student performance and academic growth as determined by each state.” Frontier International Academy was selected in Category 3, which honors “excellence in serving special populations of students.”

The Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), enacted in 1965, is the primary federal law governing K-12 education in the U.S. that provides significant funding to schools to improve educational quality and access.

The National ESEA Distinguished Schools Program “recognizes exemplary schools across the country that effectively utilize ESEA funds to improve the achievement levels of disadvantaged children.”

MDE sponsored a group of educators from each school who attended the conference. The department’s ESEA efforts help support Michigan's Top 10 Strategic Education Plan, which provides focused direction to the state's education community in support of all learners.
