Nash's Story
When Nash was born, we learned during his newborn hearing screening that he might be hard of hearing, and that possibility quickly became a confirmed reality within his first month of life. Those early days felt overwhelming, filled with new terms, new specialists, and new emotions we never expected to navigate so soon. What truly made a difference was connecting with parents whose children were a few steps ahead of us on this same journey. Seeing their kids thriving, confident, and fully themselves allowed us to imagine that same future for Nash—a reminder that hearing loss doesn’t limit who a child can become.
What I wish every parent knew in that first year is this: it’s okay not to have everything figured out. There are so many decisions to make—about technology, therapy, communication—and it can feel like each choice carries enormous weight. But none of these decisions are permanent. You can change approaches as your child grows, and as you learn what works best for them. Nash taught us that progress isn’t linear and that flexibility is one of the greatest gifts we can give our kids. Above all, know that your child is capable, resilient, and wonderfully whole just as they are.
