Exception Messages

Ambient Fail

Indicates the instrument detected a contaminant in the room air during air blank sequence and stopped the test.

Breath Sample Agreement Failed

Indicates the breath samples differed by more than the allowable range as defined in the Administrative Rules for Evidential Breath Testing.

Calibration Check Out of Tolerance

Indicates the calibration verification step (dry gas sample) was outside the allowable range as defined in the Administrative Rules for Evidential Breath Testing.

Deficient Sample

Indicates the breath sample did not meet the minimum requirements for pressure, duration, volume, and slope.

Diagnostic Fail

The word 'FAIL' appears next to any check comprising the Diagnostic Test that does not pass. Any checks that 'FAIL' cause the entire Diagnostic Test to fail.

Improper Sample

Indicates the subject blew into the instrument at the wrong time.

Unacceptable Sample

Indicates the subject did not provide an acceptable sample. There are many potential causes for an unacceptable sample, including residual mouth alcohol. Re-check the subject’s mouth and conduct another 15-minute observation period.

Interferent Detected

Indicates the instrument detected something other than ethanol in the sample.

Measurement Range Exceeded

Indicates the instrument has measured the ethanol value to be greater than the reporting range of the instrument.

Radio Frequency Interferent Detected

Indicates the Instrument has detected the presence of a Radio Frequency (RF) and has stopped the testing sequence.

Subject Refused

Indicates the subject refused to provide a breath sample when the instrument was ready for a sample. The operator then double tapped the REFUSAL icon.

Test Stopped by Operator

Indicates the operator double tapped the STOP icon.
