FC10 Inspection and Dry Gas Calibration Procedures

Calibration Settings

Each time an FC10 is received from the manufacturer the following internal settings must be applied.

  1. Press the function button four times and the FC10 will display “Security Code”. The unit is now ready to accept a password.
  2. Enter the security code 6338.
  3. Use the +/– buttons to enter a number, then press the EXECUTE button to move to the next digit.
  4. Once the correct password has been entered, press the FUNCTION button. The screen will display “Calibration”.
  5. Press the EXECUTE button. The screen will display “WET CHECK”.
  6. Press the FUNCTION button two times. The screen will display “Cal Settings”.
  7. Press the EXECUTE button. The screen will now display “Cal Standard”. The +/- buttons will adjust the setting to the appropriate calibration standard. (Refer to the altitude correction factor label on the dry gas canister or your department’s Certificate of Corrected Alcohol Standard for PBT Dry Gas Calibration to find the appropriate calibration standard.)
  8. Press the FUNCTION button one time. The screen will display “Standard Type Wet Bath”.
  9. Press the EXECUTE button to change to “Dry Gas”.
  10. Press the FUNCTION button one time. The screen will display “Exit”.
  11. Press the EXECUTE button. The screen will display “Cal Settings”.
  12. Press the FUNCTION button one time. The screen will display “EXIT”.
  13. Press the EXECUTE button. The screen will display “AUTO TEST".

Calibration Verification Check

  1. Press the FUNCTION button four times and the FC10 will display "Security Code". The unit is now ready to accept a password.
  2. Enter the security code 6338
  3. Use the +/- buttons to enter a number, then press the EXECUTE button to move to the next digit.
  4. Once the correct password has been entered, press the FUNCTION button. The screen now displays "Calibration".
  5. Press the EXECUTE button. The screen will now display "Dry Check, Std” and "Proceed" over the EXECUTE button.

Conduct a Dry Check (Calibration Check)

  1. Attach the mouthpiece on the FC10 to the regulator on the dry gas tank by sliding it over the mouthpiece adapter to ensure a snug fit. Press the EXECUTE button while at the same time depressing the regulator button on the dry gas tank.
    • Hold down the regulator button during the three-second countdown on the FC10 display to deliver a gas sample.
    • After the gas has flowed for three seconds, the display will read "Sample" over the EXECUTE button. Press and release the EXECUTE button to take the sample.
    • After one more second, release the regulator button to discontinue the flow of gas from the tank. Disconnect the FC10 from the dry gas tank.
  2. The display will read a result that should be within +/- 0.005 BrAC of the altitude corrected standard. "Exit" over the EXECUTE button.
    • Press the EXECUTE button. The display will now read "Exit" and "Exit" over the EXECUTE button.
    • Press the EXECUTE button. The display will now read "Settings".
    • Press the FUNCTION button, and the FC10 will return to the Auto Test screen.
  3. Record the test results on the Preliminary Breath Test Instrument Calibration and Maintenance Log (TD-053).
    • Record all test results, not just those within tolerance.
    • If the FC10 is outside of the allowable tolerance, proceed to the calibration adjustment procedures.

Calibration Adjustment Procedures

  1. Start:
    • Press the FUNCTION button four times and the FC10 will display "Security Code". The unit is now ready to accept a password.
    • Enter the security code 6338
    • Use the +/- buttons to enter a number, then press the EXECUTE button to move to the next digit.
    • Once the correct password has been entered, press the FUNCTION button. The "Calibration" screen is now displayed.
    • Press the EXECUTE button. The screen will now display "Dry Check, Std" and "Proceed" over the EXECUTE button.
    • Press the FUNCTION button until the FC10 displays "Dry Calibrate" and "Proceed" over the EXECUTE button.
  2. Calibration:
    • Attach the mouthpiece on the FC10 to the regulator on the dry gas tank by sliding it over the mouthpiece adapter to ensure a snug fit. Press the EXECUTE button while at the same time depressing the regulator button on the dry gas tank.
    • Hold down the regulator button during the three-second countdown on the FC10 display to deliver a gas sample.
    • After the gas has flowed for three seconds, the display will read "Sample" over the EXECUTE button. Press and release the EXECUTE button to take the sample.
    • After one more second, release the regulator button to discontinue the flow of gas from the tank. Disconnect the FC10 from the dry gas tank.
  3. If it was a successful calibration the FC10 will display "Cal Complete" and "Exit" over the EXECUTE button. You must then do another Dry Check after each successful calibration.
    • Press "Exit." (EXECUTE button)
    • The FC10 will now display "Dry Check" and "Proceed".
  4. Conduct another Dry Check to ensure correction.
  5. Make sure the calibration result is recorded on the Preliminary Breath Test Instrument Calibration and Maintenance Log (TD-053).
