Relicensing Information

U.S. Ecology operates a hazardous waste storage and treatment facility located at 6520 Georgia Street in Detroit, Michigan. The facility was first established in 1974, before hazardous waste handling and disposal operations were regulated under state or federal law. The facility’s license specifies the hazardous waste activities that U.S. Ecology can perform at the facility. U.S. Ecology submitted an application to relicense and expand their hazardous waste operations at their Georgia Street facility. Read More.

As part of the relicensing action, the MDEQ held a public meeting on March 28, 2019, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the Bridge Academy East, 9600 Buffalo Street, Hamtramck, Michigan.  During the meeting, MDEQ staff answered one-on-one questions, delivered a short presentation, and accepted formal comment for the public record from the community.  In response to questions at the meeting, the MDEQ has prepared a Frequently Asked Questions document regarding the proposed action. Written formal comment on the proposed action will continue to be accepted until the public comment period closes on April 12, 2019.  Once a final decision is made, a responsiveness summary detailing all the formal comments received and the MDEQ response will be issued in conjunction with the final decision.
