EGLE takes ‘recycled’ trophy in annual hockey game with the DNR in Cadillac
April 04, 2025
In a tradition that started nine years ago, the latest annual hockey game between the Cadillac District Office staff at the Michigan Department of Environment Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) and staffers of the Department of Natural Resource (DNR) took place recently.
This year, the EGLE team – made up of staffers from around the state -- was victorious at the fast-paced game in March held at the Wexford County Ice Arena in Cadillac known as “The Wex.”
Helping to secure the 7-4 victory was EGLE Director Phil Roos.
The trophy was fashioned by Jim Staley of the department’s Materials Management Division. “The base of the trophy is made from plywood scraps from my various woodworking projects,” he explained. “The columns are made from a couple pieces of electrical conduit leftover from when I wired my pole barn. The puck is made from two pieces of scrap medium density fiberboard (MDF) laminated together and then coated in rubberized undercoating spray left over from a camper renovation project. Lastly, all of the vinyl wraps and decals are made from remnants from my wife’s various Cricut projects.”
“The DNR and EGLE staff in Cadillac have had a friendly rivalry,” added EGLE’s Susan Conradson, the game’s organizer. “We compete in a fishing contest and softball as well.”
