Michigan landfill gas management best practices
Why We Are Convening
Under Public Act 235 of 2023, landfill gas can count toward Michigan's renewable energy goals when landfills follow best practices for gas collection and emissions monitoring, as defined by EGLE. As EGLE works toward implementation of best practices, we want to engage with diverse stakeholders to understand current practices, approaches, and industry and community dynamics across Michigan and comparable states.
Who We Are Convening
We're inviting a wide range of stakeholders – landfill operators, local government and solid waste authority representatives, composters and other organic waste diversion experts, technology experts, industry associations, NGOs, communities, and environmental groups – and we would value your participation.
What We Will Cover
- An overview of PA 235 and how it will be implemented
- The current state of landfill gas practices in Michigan
- Best practices and cost-benefit experience from other states
- Breakout discussions on organics management, gas collection systems, monitoring and transparency, and landfill cover / working face
