UIA reminder: Download 1099-G statement of unemployment benefits for income tax filing
April 09, 2026
As tax season draws to a close, the Michigan Unemployment Insurance Agency (UIA) reminds workers who received unemployment benefits in 2025 to make sure they have the proper information needed to file accurate forms.
Anyone who received benefits last year must include the information found on their 1099-G tax statement to complete their state and federal income taxes, depending on how they file their taxes.
Workers can find a copy of their 1099-G in their Michigan Web Account Manager (MIWAM) account. UIA mailed paper versions earlier this year to those who requested a printed copy.
Four easy steps to download your 1099-G from MIWAM
- Log into MiWAM.
- Click on the "I Want To" heading.
- Click on the "1099-G" link.
- Click on the 1099-G letter for the 2025 tax year and save a copy for your records.
Workers missing their 1099-G or who cannot get into their MiWAM account to download a copy, should call Customer Service at 1-866-500-0017.
If you believe the information on the 1099-G is incorrect, request a revised statement by downloading a Request to Correct Form 1099-G from Michigan.gov/UIA. Mail the request to Unemployment Insurance Agency – 1099-G, P.O. Box 169, Grand Rapids, MI, 49501-0169, or fax it to 1-517-636-0427.
The 1099-G, Certain Government Payments, statement shows the total amount of benefits paid to a claimant in 2025 and how much was withheld for state and federal taxes. You can also choose not to have UIA withhold taxes from benefits paid.
The total benefit amount listed on the 1099-G may be higher than what was actually received due to automatic deductions. For example, there may be a discrepancy if you had to repay an overpayment or fulfill court-ordered payments.
Unemployment benefits are taxed in the year the money was paid out, which might not be in the same year you were unemployed. If you received a 1099 statement, first determine if you received benefits in 2025 – even if they were from a previous claim that may not have been filed last year.
If you received a 1099 and you have not recently received payments or did not file a claim, you may be a victim of identity theft. If you receive any mail, correspondence, messages or notifications about taxes or benefits payments that seem suspicious, contact UIA as soon as possible and submit a Statement of Identity Theft.
More information can be found at the 1099-G tax statements page on the UIA website.
