Title IV, Implementing Effective Use of Technology Grant (competitive)

The Michigan Department of Education (MDE) supports learners through advocating for equitable access to resources such as professional development, supporting classroom materials, and integrated lessons. Two important areas that provide equitable access to learners are implementing computer science standards and using open educational resources (OER). Critical thinking and problem solving skills are the foundations of computer science and can be integrated into all core academic areas. OERs are open license and allow teachers to change and improve resources without worry of copyright or fair use violations, making them "better than free."

MDE is offering a competitive grant open to all local education agencies (LEAs) in Michigan, which includes both traditional public school districts and public school academies. Awardees may receive up to $20,000 for the implementation of computer science standards and up to $14,000 for the implementation of OERs. The grant is expected to become available to LEAs in late July or early August  2021. An Intent to Apply form for this grant is open now and can be found here.
