Smarter Balanced Interim Assessments
Enhance learning with Michigan’s Smarter Balanced Interim Assessments—a free, flexible suite of benchmark tools aligned to state standards in English Language Arts and Mathematics for grades 3–8 (plus high school)! These optional assessments use the same platform, item types, and scoring scale as M‑STEP, enabling educators to monitor progress throughout the year, identify student strengths and needs, and tailor instruction accordingly.
Schools can choose between Interim Comprehensive Assessments (ICAs) for end-of-unit checks and focused Interim Assessment Blocks (IABs) targeting specific content. Both formats deliver rapid, actionable reports, directly linked to the state’s “Tools for Teachers” digital platform—offering research-based lessons, activities, and strategies for immediate instructional use.
