In June 2026, the Michigan State Board of Education established a Special Education Committee to gain a deeper understanding of the challenges and opportunities related to special education across the state. The motion was adopted on June 9, 2026, by a unanimous vote (8–0) during the Board’s monthly meeting.

- November 9, 2026, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. We invite you to join the Special Education Committee at the Saginaw Intermediate School District Unity Hall, 3860 Fashion Square Boulevard, Saginaw, MI 48603. To help us prepare for the community engagement portion, if you are willing, please consider submitting your information through this RSVP to help us prepare for the session. Attendees will participate in small, focused conversations to share concerns, experiences, and ideas for improvement. Time will also be reserved for public comments in compliance with the Open Meetings Act.
