Pamela Pugh, DrPH, MS, Vice President

Pamela Pugh, DrPH, MS, was elected to the State Board of Education in 2014, and currently serves as its vice president. She is a member of the Healthy Schools Network Board of Directors, and a member of the Board of Directors for the National Association of State Boards of Education where she serves as Chair of the Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion committee. She is the Chief Programs Officer for The Chisholm Legacy Project: A Resource Hub for Black Frontline Climate Justice Leadership. Dr. Pugh was the Chief Public Health Advisor for the City of Flint, Michigan for three years. She is the co-founder of Regeneration LLC, a consultancy that serves as a catalyst for economic sustainability and healthy urban communities. She was previously employed by the Saginaw County Department of Public Health for 14 years. She received both a Doctor of Public Health and Master of Science from the University of Michigan School of Public Health, a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from Florida A&M University, and an Associate’s Degree in Pre-Engineering from Delta College.
Dr. Pugh’s previous work includes being at the forefront of the fight to reduce childhood lead poisoning in Michigan. She has worked on numerous projects aimed at fostering the wellness of young children by addressing systems and programs that involve the physical, social, and emotional aspects of their development. Pamela’s research entails the development of an instrument to assess and identify households and neighborhoods that pose the greatest environmental health risk to children. She has been appointed to numerous boards and policy development workgroups aimed at improving the quality of life for children and families which include Governor Granholm’s Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Task Force, the State Environmental Justice Workgroup under Governor Jennifer Granholm, National Institute of Health (NIH)-funded Midwest Consortium for Hazardous Waste Workers Training Advisory Board, Michigan Conference NAACP Health Chair, and past Vice Chair of the Michigan Environmental Council (MEC) Board of Directors. Pamela is a two-time recipient of the NAACP Dr. Montague Cobb Award for special achievement in social justice, health justice, health education, and promotion, fund-raising and research.
Pamela Pugh is the former 2nd Vice President of the National Federation of Democratic Women and the immediate past chair of the Michigan Democratic Women’s Caucus. She is a proud graduate of Saginaw High School, a member of the World Outreach Campus Church of God in Christ in Saginaw, Michigan, and a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
