Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA)

The Every Student Succeed Act (ESSA) is the nation’s education law, a manifestation of the federal commitment to equal opportunity for all students. In 2015, ESSA was signed into law to reauthorize the federal Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) and to replace the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB). Section 1111 [20 U.S.C. 6311] of ESSA (Page 15) requires states to develop comprehensive plans to address various aspects of ESSA. Michigan’s original ESSA Plan was submitted to and approved by the U.S. Department of Education (USED) in November 2017.
