HIV/STI and Sex Education
Welcome to the HIV/STI and Sex Education Page!

Michigan schools are committed to supporting students as they grow into healthy, informed young adults. HIV/STI prevention and sex education support the positive physical and mental health of youth as they grow into young adults. Schools play an important role in HIV/STI prevention and sex education in partnership with parents and communities to equip students with the knowledge and skills to make healthy and responsible decisions.
In Michigan, schools are required to teach about HIV. Schools can also choose to teach sex education. When they do, they must follow the laws governing both the content and the process.
On this page, you will find a collection of valuable resources for schools, teachers, administrators, parents, and others involved in HIV/STI prevention and sex education. The resources help support safe and healthy development, strengthen communication with families, and align instruction with state law.
