Michigan Arts Education Instruction and Assessment Project (MAEIA)
The Michigan Arts Education Instruction and Assessment Project (MAEIA) supports Michigan school districts, buildings, educators, and the public in implementing a high quality arts education program in dance, music, theatre, and visual arts for all K-12 students. Data that results from using the MAEIA tools can be used for assessing student learning or for program and instructional improvement.

The MAEIA project is the result of a collaboration between the Michigan Department of Education, the Michigan Assessment Consortium (MAC), and Data Recognition Corporation (DRC). It is supported in part during 2016 and 2017 by a grant from the Michigan Council on Arts and Cultural Affairs (MCACA). Approximately 1,000 professional educators from all over the state of Michigan and from all levels of education have collaborated in developing the assessment items and other resources.

- MAEIA’s catalogue of 350 project-based assessments is one of the largest in the nation, meaning teachers can choose the best performance tasks to fit their curricula and instruction.
- All assessments are curriculum-embedded and aligned to Michigan Standards and National Core Arts Anchor Standards.
- MAEIA’s individual and small group performance assessments are intended to be used periodically throughout the school year to document student performance, for use in improving instruction and learning.
- MAEIA assessments also have the potential to support the effectiveness of arts educators.
