Since 2018, Marshall Bullock II has served as the State Senator for Michigan’s District 4. As Senator, Marshall focused on providing children with a world-class education, making common sense reforms to auto insurance, and fighting for accessible, affordable health and mental wellness programs. He served as minority vice chair of the Families, Seniors, and Veterans Committee and was a member of the Senate committees on Insurance and Banking, Transportation and Infrastructure, and Energy and Technology. Senator Bullock also served as the Senate Associate President Pro Tempore.
Born and raised in Detroit, Marshall is a graduate of Detroit Public Schools, Mumford High and holds a bachelor’s degree in Human Services from the University of Phoenix. Prior to joining the Legislature, Marshall has thirty years of experience working in public health, juvenile justice, and foster care. Marshall was also active in local government, serving as the District Manager of the Department of Neighborhoods, the Community and Political Affairs Director for the Mayor’s Office in the City of Detroit. Marshall’s life experiences have made him the true embodiment of a public servant. He is a dedicated husband to Angela and proud father of three children, Maya, and twins, Layla and Marshall III.
In addition to his contributions to the legislative body and state, Senator Bullock served Chairman of the Michigan Legislative Black Caucus where under his leadership, four pillars of priority were selected: health care disparities, education inequities, workforce – labor – economic development inclusiveness, and peace and justice (a rebrand of criminal justice). His dedication and integrity stand as a clear example of what it takes to be a successful public servant and strong leader for Detroit.
