MDE Begins 2018-2019 #proudMIeducator Campaign Featuring Video with MTOY Laura Chang

October 29, 2018

LANSING – The Michigan Department of Education today released the newest video installment of the #proudMIeducator campaign, designed to recognize and celebrate the great work being done by Michigan educators.

The newest video highlights 2018-2019 Michigan Teacher of the Year Laura Chang. It features her district’s superintendent, principal, colleagues, and her father – himself a retired educator. Together, they discuss the tremendous impact Ms. Chang has had on them, the students, and the teaching profession in general.

Chang is a reading and math interventionist at Sunset Lake Elementary School in Vicksburg Community Schools, who says: “There’s never a point when learning ends.”

“Michigan is blessed with so many proud Michigan educators who inspire all of us every day,” said Interim State Superintendent Sheila Alles. “This year’s campaign will feature some of our finest. They all are committed to helping make Michigan a Top 10 education state in 10 years.”

This is the 15th video released by MDE in the #proudMIeducator campaign since September 2016. The new video is the first in a series to be shared during the 2018-2019 school year.

The campaign’s goal is to help confirm how Michigan values, honors, and supports its educators.

The #proudMIeducator series is just one way MDE honors its educators as it works to become a Top 10 education state in 10 years. This program aids in that goal by honoring our educators and promoting the teacher workforce as the skilled and valued profession it truly is.

Laura Chang’s video, and previous proudMIeducator videos can be found on MDE’s Proud Michigan Educator webpage.
