Michigan Teacher Leadership Advisory Council Highlighted in Newest #ProudMIEducator Video

May 15, 2019

LANSING – Continuing to celebrate the state’s educators during Teacher Appreciation Month, the Michigan Department of Education (MDE) today released the newest video in the #proudMIeducator series, focused on the Michigan Teacher Leadership Advisory Council (MTLAC).

The MTLAC is comprised of the 10 Regional Teachers of the Year (RTOY), each representing a specific area of the state. The group’s mission is to share issues of importance to teachers and students with MDE, while also providing input on proposed department policies and initiatives. The video, highlighting both the MTLAC’s role as well as the 2018-19 members, is available at

“MDE truly appreciates the members of our Teacher Leadership Advisory Council and the important voice they bring to the table as we work together to make Michigan a top 10 education state in 10 years,” said Interim State Superintendent Sheila Alles. “We are fortunate to have such strong, unique teacher leaders who guide their students and help them achieve their goals; and also advocate for all learners, fellow educators and the teaching profession at the state level.”

Recognizing the state’s educators – including celebrating the work of classroom teachers during the month of May – is an important piece of the Michigan’s Top 10 in 10 strategic initiative, which, in part, aims to develop, support, and sustain a high-quality, prepared, and collaborative education workforce.
