LANSING – As part of its ongoing commitment to highlight the contributions of educators and supporters of education, the Michigan Department of Education (MDE) is proud to announce the release of the latest video in the #proudMIeducator series.
The latest video highlights the contributions of the Meemic Foundation, which has partnered with MDE to sponsor the Michigan Teacher of the Year (MTOY) Program for the past 13 years.
“We are fortunate to have partners, such as the Meemic Foundation, that are dedicated to helping make Michigan a Top 10 education state in 10 years,” said Interim State Superintendent Sheila Alles. “The Meemic Foundation values the contributions of Michigan’s educators and the grants Meemic provides give needed financial support to implement new and creative learning activities for our students in their classrooms and schools.”
Since 2015, the Meemic Foundation has awarded more than 10,000 grants to educators, helping them secure supplies and equipment needed to help them deliver a better educational experience to students.
“Meemic has a rich history as a member of the educational community, being founded by a group of Michigan educators in 1950,” said Pam R. Harlin, Director of the Meemic Foundation. “Not only are we deeply committed to supporting Michigan education, it is our honor to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with every school, educator, and organizations like the Michigan Department of Education to support and advance quality education.”
The #proudMIeducator initiative is part of a greater effort by MDE to recognize and celebrate the state’s education workforce. Anyone can participate in the social media-driven campaign designed to shine a spotlight on those making a difference for students in schools and districts across the state – simply tag posts using the #proudMIeducator hashtag.
