State Superintendents Statement on New US Secretary of Education
March 02, 2021
LANSING – State Superintendent Dr. Michael Rice welcomes the confirmation last night by the U.S. Senate of Dr. Miguel Cardona as U.S. Secretary of Education.
“I congratulate Miguel Cardona on his confirmation and look forward to working closely with him on efforts to improve public education,” Dr. Rice said. “Secretary Cardona’s personal educational journey and professional background as a teacher, principal, assistant superintendent, and state school chief provide him with important insights into our children’s experiences in our public schools. As we seek to improve public education and to address more immediately the adverse effects of the pandemic, his voice will be a critical one.”
Secretary Cardona received bipartisan support with a 64-33 vote in the U.S. Senate to secure his confirmation.
