2023-24 Michigan Teacher of the Year featured in latest proudMIeducator video

LANSING – The 2023-24 Michigan Teacher of the Year likes to set the tone of acceptance and inclusivity in her classroom and instills in her students that every opinion and every voice matters.

Ms. Candice Jackson, a third-grade educator at Mann Learning Community in Detroit Public Schools Community District, is the featured educator in the latest #proudMIeducator video, released today by the Michigan Department of Education (MDE).

“I do believe that education is a noble profession,” Ms. Jackson said. “We have the ability to shape the future. The main goal is to give all students what they need, meeting the students where they are and seeing exactly what they know and giving them what they need.”

“The #proudMIeducator campaign is one way that we honor the hard work of passionate educators, such as Ms. Jackson,” said State Superintendent Dr. Michael Rice. “We hope that her approach to teaching and helping shape Michigan’s future will help others understand the importance of building community in their classrooms and schools and motivate people to consider a career in education.”

Since 2016, the #proudMIeducator series has featured educators and supporters of Michigan educators who share their passion for education. The full playlist can be found on the MDE YouTube Page, www.YouTube.com/MichDeptEd
