Upcoming Virtual Job Fairs Among the Ways Michigan is Addressing Teacher Shortage

LANSING – As part of numerous efforts to support Goal 7 of Michigan's Top 10 Strategic Education Plan, to increase the numbers of certified teachers in areas of shortage, the Michigan Department of Education (MDE) has scheduled 2026 Education Workforce Virtual Job Fairs, presented in cooperation with the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity (LEO).

The 2026 virtual job fairs are open to employers of educators and all people seeking to work in the education field. The fairs will leverage LEO’s expertise in hosting virtual job fairs to ensure a robust experience for both employers and job seekers by using Radancy, an engaging and easy-to-use online platform that allows participants to interact seamlessly through the entire interview process.

“The 2026 Education Workforce Virtual Job Fairs are important opportunities for prospective educators to play a critical role in increasing student achievement and performance,” said State Superintendent Dr. Glenn Maleyko. “To put Students First, we need to ensure that there are well-qualified, certified teachers in our classrooms.”

The Education Workforce Virtual Job Fairs will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on:

  • Wednesday, March 11, 2026
  • Wednesday, May 13, 2026

“Building Michigan's talent pipeline means being proactive and bringing resources like job fairs to job seekers so they have exposure to in-demand career paths while also meeting Michigan's future talent needs,” said Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity Director Susan Corbin. “Job fairs give students a chance to connect directly with employers, explore career paths and start building the networks that can shape their future and put them on a pathway to success.”

During the last several years, MDE has carried out numerous strategies to increase the number of certified educators in critical areas of shortage. They include, but are not limited to, Grow Your Own programs for middle school and high school students and support staff to become teachers and the expansion of innovative, on-demand preparation programming to reduce significant financial and geographic barriers for aspiring teachers. Additionally, MDE created a rural credentialing hub and a program to streamline the process for veteran teachers and counselors who are certified in other states to become certified in Michigan.
